Rolando Gómez, Jefe de la Sección de Prensa y Relaciones Externas del Servicio de Información de las Naciones Unidas (UNIS) en Ginebra, presidió la rueda de prensa híbrida, a la que asistieron portavoces y representantes del Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia, la Organización Mundial de la Salud, la Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, la Oficina de Coordinación de Asuntos Humanitarios de las Naciones Unidas, la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre Comercio y Desarrollo y el Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados.
Se reanuda el conflicto en Gaza
James Elder, del Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF), dijo hoy en Gaza que hubo muchos bombardeos y que quienes tienen el poder decidieron que se reanudaría la matanza de niños en Gaza. La situación humanitaria en Gaza era tan peligrosa que cualquier cosa que no fuera paz sostenida y ayuda de emergencia significaría una catástrofe para los niños de Gaza. La grave situación de agua, salud, nutrición y saneamiento amenazaba con un desastre de magnitud sin precedentes para los niños de Gaza. Tal era la enormidad de la necesidad que, a pesar de los enormes esfuerzos de todas las Naciones Unidas, la situación de salud, nutrición y saneamiento había estado empeorando día a día.
