        Séance d'information de l'ONU sur les droits de l'homme par Ravina Shamdasani sur les événements en RDC


        « L'avancée du M23 soutenu par le Rwanda vers le Sud-Kivu a plongé la région dans une crise sécuritaire et humanitaire complexe, provoquant le déplacement de populations, » a-t-elle ajouté.

        « Notre Bureau a confirmé des cas d'exécutions sommaires d'enfants par le M23 après leur entrée dans la ville de Bukavu la semaine dernière. Nous savons également que des enfants étaient en possession d'armes. Nous appelons le Rwanda et le M23 à veiller au respect des droits de l'homme et du droit international humanitaire. Nous documentons également des cas de mauvais traitements, de violences sexuelles et sexistes liées au conflit, de recrutement d'enfants et de recrutement forcé, d'intimidation et de menaces de mort, » a déclaré Shamdasani.

        Nous avons également reçu des informations concernant des arrestations et détentions arbitraires, des traitements dégradants et des retours forcés présumés de jeunes hommes congolais fuyant la violence dans les pays voisins.

        « Suite à l'évasion des prisons centrales de Kabare et Bukavu le 14 février, nous avons reçu des demandes de protection de la part de victimes et de témoins. Ils craignent des représailles de la part des évadés, étant donné leur participation active aux procès contre certains de ces prisonniers condamnés pour de graves violations et abus des droits de l'homme - dont certains constituent des crimes internationaux, » a-t-elle déclaré.

        Le Bureau des droits de l'homme de l'ONU est également préoccupé par la sécurité des avocats et autres personnels judiciaires.

        Ils ont également reçu des rapports indiquant que des journalistes, des défenseurs des droits de l'homme et des membres d'organisations de la société civile ont été menacés et contraints de quitter la région. D'autres sont encore bloqués à Bukavu et Goma, et ont exprimé leur crainte pour leur sécurité, en raison de leur engagement actif pour les droits de l'homme et de leur dénonciation des violations et abus commis par le Rwanda et le M23 dans divers territoires de l'est de la RDC.

        « Le Haut-Commissaire des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme Volker Türk appelle le Rwanda et le M23 à protéger tous les individus dans les territoires sous leur contrôle, il exprime son horreur face aux événements qui se déroulent au Sud et au Nord-Kivu, et l'impact que cela a sur les civils. La violence doit cesser immédiatement, » a déclaré Shamdasani.

        UN Human Rights Office Spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani today urged Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to reject a bill that was recently endorsed by parliament allowing trials of civilians in military courts. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces Amendment Bill 2025, which was passed on 20 May and now awaits presidential signature to become law, among others broadens the jurisdiction of military courts, authorising them to try a wide range of offences against civilians.
