Le Haut-Commissaire des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme, Volker Türk, est extrêmement préoccupé par l'escalade de la violence et des hostilités dans l'État d'Al-Jazirah au Soudan, qui aggravent encore le risque d'attaques contre les civils, de violences à motivation ethnique et de crimes atroces, a déclaré mardi le porte-parole du Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme, Seif Magango. Il s'exprimait lors du point de presse bihebdomadaire de l'ONU à Genève.
« Le Haut-Commissaire des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme, Volker Türk, est extrêmement préoccupé par l'escalade des hostilités et de la violence au Soudan. La violence se déroule dans l'État d'Al-Jazirah », a-t-il déclaré.
« Depuis la défection d'Abu Aqla Keikel, un commandant des Forces de soutien rapide, vers les Forces armées soudanaises le 20 octobre, les attaques des FSR sur les villages de l'État d'Al-Jazirah ont augmenté, apparemment en représailles à sa défection et ciblant les membres de son groupe ethnique », a-t-il ajouté.
« Le vendredi 25 octobre, au moins 124 personnes auraient été tuées lors d'une attaque des forces terrestres des FSR sur le village d'Al-Seriha », a-t-il noté.
« Cet incident fait suite à au moins deux autres attaques des forces terrestres des FSR sur les villes voisines de Tamboul et Rufaa plus tôt dans la semaine. Les rapports suggèrent que des centaines de personnes ont été tuées à Tamboul », a-t-il dit.
« Ils indiquent également au moins 25 cas de violences sexuelles dans plusieurs villages de la localité de Sharq Al Gazira, y compris trois membres du personnel médical et une fillette de 11 ans, qui est décédée des suites de ces violences », a-t-il ajouté.
Lors du point de presse bihebdomadaire de l'ONU à Genève, Magango a déclaré : « En raison de la violence, des milliers de familles auraient été déplacées de l'État d'Al-Jazirah vers les États voisins de Gedaref et Kassala, ajoutant à la crise de déplacement déjà désastreuse dans le pays », a déclaré le porte-parole.
« Il y a également des rapports de brûlage de récoltes. À un moment où plus de 25 millions de Soudanais sont confrontés à une insécurité alimentaire aiguë en raison du conflit en cours, la destruction des récoltes dans une région considérée comme le grenier à blé du pays ne peut qu'aggraver une situation déjà catastrophique », a-t-il dit.
« Le Haut-Commissaire des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme, Volker Türk, réitère son appel à toutes les parties pour qu'elles respectent strictement leurs obligations en vertu du droit international des droits de l'homme et du droit international humanitaire, en particulier en assurant la protection des civils », a déclaré Magango.
« Les dirigeants des deux côtés doivent prendre rapidement toutes les mesures nécessaires pour désamorcer la situation », a-t-il dit.
Il a également appelé à ce que toutes les violations présumées soient enquêtées et que les responsables soient traduits en justice, après des procès équitables.
