Rolando Gómez, Jefe de la Sección de Prensa y Relaciones Externas del Servicio de Información de las Naciones Unidas en Ginebra, presidió una rueda de prensa híbrida, a la que asistieron portavoces y representantes de la Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, la Organización Mundial de la Salud, el Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia y la Comisión General de Pesca para el Mediterráneo (CGPM) de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO).
Situación humanitaria en Gaza
El Dr. Richard Peeperkorn, Representante de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) en el territorio palestino ocupado, hablando desde Rafah en Gaza, dijo que la situación en Gaza empeoraba hora tras hora, con bombardeos intensificados, incluidos en las zonas del sur. Había un número creciente de personas desplazadas internamente, y la población estaba desesperada y en un estado de shock permanente. De las 16,000 personas muertas, más del 60 por ciento eran mujeres y niños. Un niño moría cada diez minutos en Gaza. Estábamos cerca de la hora más oscura de la humanidad, y se necesitaba un alto el fuego sostenido, enfatizó el Dr. Peeperkorn.
