Syria Constitutional Committee Arrivals and Meeting 21 October 2021

Please be informed that bi-roll and photos of the arrival of the delegations on the fourth day of the sixth session of the Small Body of the Syrian Constitutional Committee and the beginning of their meeting with the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Geir O. Pedersen, are available on the newsroom.

The 45 members of the Small Drafting Body are nominated by the government (15), by the opposition (15), and from the civil society (15).

The meetings are scheduled to take place till the end of this week at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Government of Israel has ramped up settlement of the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, transferring its own population into the territory and unlawfully demolishing Palestinian homes. Following last night’s Israeli strikes in Gaza, Thameen Al-Kheetan, Spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, made the following comment at the bi-weekly news briefing in Geneva: “Weare horrified by last night’s Israeli airstrikes and shelling in Gaza, which killed hundreds, according to the Ministry of Health in the strip. This will add tragedy onto tragedy.”
