Seif Magango, porte-parole de l'ONU pour les droits de l'homme, Soudan du Sud, Le chef des droits de l'homme de l'ONU dénonce l'escalade des hostilités et les arrestations arbitraires
« Nous avertissons aujourd'hui d'un risque réel de détérioration supplémentaire de la situation des droits de l'homme au Soudan du Sud. Cela fait suite à une forte augmentation des hostilités entre les forces de défense du peuple sud-soudanais et l'Armée populaire de libération du Soudan - en opposition, » a-t-il déclaré.
« Au moins 75 civils ont été tués et 78 autres blessés depuis le déclenchement des dernières hostilités en février. Des milliers de personnes ont été déplacées, » a déclaré le porte-parole.
Les derniers combats ont éclaté suite à une série d'attaques armées dans le comté de Nasir, dans l'État du Haut-Nil en février, qui ont été attribuées au groupe de milice de l'Armée Blanche.
« Le Haut-Commissaire Volker Türk exhorte toutes les parties à se retirer d'urgence du bord du gouffre et à respecter l'accord de paix de 2018. Il appelle également toutes les parties à protéger les civils et les objets civils et à faciliter l'accès humanitaire - conformément à leurs obligations en vertu du droit international, » a déclaré Magango.
« Nous sommes également préoccupés par la détention arbitraire de dizaines de politiciens liés au SPLM-IO, parmi lesquels le premier vice-président du pays, des ministres et des membres du parlement, » a-t-il déclaré.
Au moins 55 hauts responsables gouvernementaux affiliés au SPLM-IO ont été arrêtés à travers le pays entre le 5 et le 26 mars – beaucoup d'entre eux sans mandats d'arrêt ou procédure régulière.
« Toutes les personnes détenues arbitrairement doivent être libérées immédiatement et sans condition.
Nous appelons les autorités à prendre également des mesures rapides, efficaces et significatives pour mettre fin aux discours de haine, » a-t-il déclaré.

DR Congo: Ebola outbreak continues to expand, WHO sees signs of stabilization
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), UN health teams and partners are still racing to contain the rapidly expanding Ebola outbreak, despite ongoing insecurity in eastern areas where the virus has taken hold. As of 19 July, the DRC Government has recorded 2,423 confirmed cases, including 967 deaths and 469 patient recoveries.

UN humanitarians working in war-torn Sudan warned on Friday of growing dramatic needs among the more than 100,000 displaced people now sheltering in camps in the city of El Obeid. "We are providing even not the full food ration to the people, but even that reduced food ration is being shared by the recipients with other families, because they know that they don't have any other source of income," said World Food Programme (WFP) Sudan Country Director Abdallah Alwardat.
