I express my deep gratitude for this opportunity and the messages of condolences we have been receiving on the passing away of former Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Abe Shinzo. Today in Japan, we observed the tragic shooting of Mr. Abe. The Japanese people are shocked and saddened by this act of brutality. Mr. Abe was a prominent leader. He served as a Prime Minister for eight years and eight months, which is a record length in Japan's constitutional history. During his time on the international front, he made strenuous efforts to continue to contribute to the world peace and stability and to forge its faces. This despicable act took place in the midst of an election, the very foundation of freedom and democracy. It is absolutely intolerable, and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms I would appreciate it if you could join us in observing a minute of silence and silent prayer for Mr. Abe Shinzo.

Thank you.”
