Commémoration annuelle de la Journée mondiale de l'aide humanitaire au Palais des Nations, Genève, Suisse
Le 19 août 2003, un attentat à la bombe contre l'hôtel Canal à Bagdad, en Irak, a tué 22 travailleurs humanitaires, y compris le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général de l'ONU pour l'Irak, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Cinq ans plus tard, l'Assemblée générale a adopté une résolution désignant le 19 août comme Journée mondiale de l'aide humanitaire (JMAH).
