Rhéal LeBlanc, Chief of the Press and External Relations Section at the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, chaired the hybrid press briefing, which was attended by the spokespersons of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the World Food Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Meteorological Organization.

El Niño confirmed, extreme weather events will be more intense, says WMO

The UN urged all countries on Tuesday to bolster early warning systems after confirming the onset of El Niño, warning that the Pacific Ocean-warming phenomenon will bring above-average temperatures “nearly everywhere” and fuel more extreme weather.
