Human Rights Council joins in tribute to Shinzo Abe after fatal shooting
The Human Rights Council held a minute’s silence on Friday in memory of former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who died after he was shot while attending a political event in the west of Japan. The President of the Council's 50th session, Federico Villegas, expressed solidarity with Japan on behalf of the Geneva forum, while Ambassador Yamazaki Kazuyuki, Permanent Representative of Japan to UN Geneva, asked Member States to stand as a mark of respect to the former premier.
