EXTRAIT SONORE (Anglais) Ravina Shamdasani, porte-parole du Bureau des droits de l'homme de l'ONU (OHCHR) : "Le Haut-Commissaire a été très clair dans son appel d'hier. Il appelle les États-Unis à annuler rapidement les sanctions qu'ils ont imposées contre la Rapporteuse spéciale de l'ONU sur la situation des droits de l'homme dans le territoire palestinien occupé, Mme Francesca Albanese. Les Rapporteurs spéciaux de l'ONU sont une partie essentielle de l'écosystème des droits de l'homme.
Ils traitent de questions très sensibles, souvent clivantes, et cela fait partie de leur mandat. C'est pourquoi les États membres eux-mêmes leur ont confié ce mandat. Face à un désaccord acharné, il est crucial que les États membres s'engagent de manière substantielle et constructive, plutôt que de recourir à des mesures punitives comme celle-ci. Le Haut-Commissaire est très clair sur le fait que toutes les attaques et menaces contre les procédures spéciales de l'ONU, les titulaires de mandat, d'autres experts de l'ONU, toute partie de l'écosystème des droits de l'homme de l'ONU, ainsi que la Cour pénale internationale et ses fonctionnaires doivent cesser.
La solution n'est pas moins, mais plus de débat et de dialogue sur les préoccupations très réelles en matière de droits de l'homme qu'ils abordent."
